Dr. Lawrence Huff becomes the first to utilize surgical technology in a new way
Lawrence R. Huff, M.D., fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeon at Desert Orthopaedic Center, became the first surgeon in the United States to use the ExactechGPS® Guided Personalized Surgery system for a shoulder revision case (a revision of a failed shoulder replacement that was performed by another surgeon) this summer. Dr. Huff has also become the ninth surgeon in the United States to utilize this extremely innovative technology for advanced shoulder implant placement during a shoulder replacement procedure.
Dr. Huff is offering this and other procedures at Southern Hills Hospital & Medical Center, located at 9300 W. Sunset Road. He focuses his practice on unique, advanced procedures for the upper extremity, such as shoulder and elbow replacements, and the utilization of the ExactechGPS technology is one example of his innovative approach. The ExactechGPS system allows the surgeon to understand his or her patient’s anatomy prior to surgery and provides visibility into critical areas of the shoulder in real time during surgery, allowing the surgeon to place the implant more consistently and accurately. More accurate placement results in minimized complications and theoretically increases implant survivability, according to a recent study.
“I am proud to utilize this state-of-the-art technology in a way that no one has yet and to offer my patients something they won’t find anywhere else,” says Dr. Huff. “The advancement of technology is giving surgeons the ability to operate with increased precision, leading to better outcomes, and I am committed to staying on the forefront of these advancements.”
